Temperature: What is the coldest place on Earth?

The coldest place on Earth is currently considered to be a ridge in Antarctica called the East Antarctic Plateau, specifically a site called Dome A. Dome A is located near the center of East Antarctica, at an elevation of around 4,091 meters (13,420 feet) above sea level. The region experiences extremely low temperatures due to its high altitude, dry air, and clear skies, which allow for maximum radiative cooling at night.

The lowest temperature ever recorded on Earth was also recorded in Antarctica, at a research station located at the South Pole. On July 21, 1983, the temperature at the station dropped to -128.6 degrees Fahrenheit (-89.2 degrees Celsius). This temperature is recognized as the lowest ever recorded on Earth by the World Meteorological Organization.

Overall, Antarctica is known for its extreme cold temperatures, with most of the continent experiencing year-round freezing temperatures and some of the harshest weather conditions on the planet.
