A mythological animation film that will appeal to all age groups
Animation movies often get slotted in the children’s genre, so the makers of the upcoming mythological animation film, Hanuman vs Mahiravana, are trying to break free from this stereotype with their story. Set against the legendary battle of the Ramayana, the film, directed by Dr Ezhil Vendan, is the untold tale of what happened on the penultimate day of the battle. The story has never been told before and the makers believe that audiences will enjoy this part of the epic, which revolves around Ravana’s brother, the evil sorcerer Mahiravana, and his battle with Hanuman. Touted to be a full-fledged family entertainer, it will appeal to all age groups.
Rajiv Chilaka, founder and CEO of Green Gold Animation, shares, “Our film traces the untold journey of Hanuman and how he saves Rama and Lakshmana from the evil clutches of the powerful ruler of the dark world, Mahiravana. Home-grown animation films are booming in India. People in their late 30s haven’t grown up on animation films, but the new generation has been exposed to this genre. Filmmakers should be bold enough to take risks. It’s about time we invest in our own superheroes.”
The film has been inspired by the popular animated video game, Gamaya Legends, which is based on the Ramayana. The game’s thematic content influenced the makers so much that they decided to produce a film around the characters from the video game.
Hanuman Vs Mahiravana, produced by Green Gold Animation, releases in 3D and 2D in Hindi and Tamil across India on July 6.
